Catered Chalet Auriane

This stunning chalet combines the luxury of an exclusive boutique hotel with the traditional feel of an Alpine ski lodge to offer you a truly memorable stay.  With the best view in La Tzoumaz, the chalet is spread over two floors perched on the side of the mountain.  It is a uniquely spacious place both for families and groups. Whether your favourite thing is to lie in a hot tub drinking champagne after a fun day’s skiing in Verbier, or gently gliding down our local wide, quiet slopes, tobogganing down a 12km run or lying in a huge comfy bed dreaming of delicious food and watching a movie, this is the place to do it in!

The chalet sleeps up to 12 people in 5 en-suite bedrooms and also has a superb leisure spa room with sauna and hammam, adjacent to the large outdoor Jacuzzi offering private views over the entire valley and La Tzoumaz.

Here’s an informative article on Chalet Auriane from the British press (The Independent, November 2015).

The “Verbier” suite is a sumptuous master suite with a feature tree-trunk double bed, hand-crafted from local Arolles trees.  The whole room overlooks the stunning mountain panorama which draws the eye from everywhere in the room.  The ground drops steeply away from the private balcony so the large windows offer a dizzying view on an ever-changing vista that includes the distant snow-capped peaks of Mont Gond and the Haut de Cry, and across the rooftops to the charming village of Iserables and its Mayens.  You can even admire the same view from inside the glass-fronted, walk-in, overhead rain shower, or from the fragrant bubbles of the private bath tub which nestles against the windows.

Downstairs are three double rooms, “St-Moritz”, “Klosters” and “Gstaad”, which all have stunning views that drop away from the patio doors and stretch up to the mountain peaks over 20km away.  They each have a large and comfortable double bed, a large wall-mounted Apple TV with over 1000 movies, an iPod alarm clock and plenty of storage and hanging space.  There’s a feature bench along one wall which turns the room into more than just a sleeping place.  Underneath are several drawers to help organise your personal possessions.  A code-operated safe is provided for you to keep your personal items secure.  Each room has its own en-suite bath & shower room with sink and WC, with heated towel rails and a hairdryer.

The “Zermatt” room is set up to welcome up to 4 adults or children in full-size bunk beds, with an en-suite shower room, a chest of drawers and patio doors to the terrace.  The large wall-mounted TV is served by an Apple Box pre-loaded with family-friendly movies.  If you wish to travel with children under 2 years old, just let us know and we will provide a cot and high chair in your chalet.

The bright and airy corridor connecting the downstairs bedrooms is decorated to continue the chalet’s tree theme.  It also leads to the spa area.  Here you will find all that you need to relax and unwind in the peace of an idyllic mountain setting.  You can even admire the view from within the large glass-walled sauna.  The large, walk-in overhead-rain shower is fitted with massage pebbles to soothe your aching feet as the fresh mountain water cascades around you.  Stepping off the polished wooden floor and onto the outdoor decking you will find the outdoor hot tub jacuzzi, which has a range of air jets and bubble functions to re-energise and invigorate tired muscles while you admire the mountain panorama that surrounds you.  The outdoor sound system can be set to provide a pleasing backdrop, or you can just enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature in this quiet haven, a world away from bright lights and bustling cities.

When you’re not pampering and relaxing in the spa area, it doubles up as a play den for the children, with its Wii plugged into the big screen, tucked away downstairs and away from adult conversation.

Chalet Catering during the ski season

Throughout your stay our talented cook, who is an experienced and creative artist, will produce modern and traditional cuisine to tantalize your taste buds. The cook will take account of your likes and expectations, rarely sticking to a fixed menu plan and indeed will have been in touch with you before to discuss your meal preferences.

Toddlers and younger children are not left out. Combined with a little magic and some help from the mums, the cook will plan special menus, ensuring the little ones also enjoy wonderful food during their luxury ski holiday and at a time best suited to them.

As ever, it is up to you to set the pace and dining can be as formal or relaxed as you wish. A typical day in Chalet Auriane starts off with morning tea served in bed, followed by a hearty breakfast. While you are out skiing, a sumptuous afternoon tea is prepared and laid out for your return. Before dinner you may want to warm up in the sauna or hamman before snuggling up in the fur throws by a roaring fire and relax with some pre-dinner aperitifs and canapés before sitting down to a 4 course meal. After dinner, enjoy coffee and chocolates in front of the roaring log fire, discussing the highlights of the day.

The evening meals are complemented by a selection of delicious white and red wines. You also have the option of purchasing even higher quality wines from our extensive à la carte list. The collection is predominantly focused on French classified wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and Languedoc, but internationally recognised local wines have also been stored in the perfect cellaring conditions.

The chalet is managed by two full-time experienced staff, who live out, ensuring your privacy. They are chosen for their enthusiasm, experience and ability to go that one extra step to ensure your stay is all you wished for. Prior to your arrival, the chalet manager will contact you to enquire about your dietary wishes, preferences and the timing of meals for any little ones in your party.

Uniquely to us, our chalet staff are in the chalet early 7 days a week ensuring you get the best possible start to your day with whatever type of breakfast you wish. They have one evening off a week, allowing you to experience one of the local restaurants. They will be delighted to advise you of the available options.

The chalet staff have a night off once a week, which is the perfect opportunity to grab pizzas or better still go out for dinner to try the local speciality of ‘le chapeau’ where you are presented with a plate of meats to cook on a ‘hat-shaped’ hot plate over oil burners with salad and chip side orders.

Internet

Chalet Auriane is equipped with high-speed WIFI and a computer for your own personal use.

Equipment & facilities

In the kitchen you will find all the basics: a fridge and an oven with induction hob, a kettle, toaster and Nespresso coffee-machine, plus fondue and raclette sets for a traditional Swiss evening in front of the log fire.  A hairdryer, iron and portable outdoor barbeque are all available for you to use and there is a shared (coin-operated) washing machine and dryer available in the building.  A ski-locker with boot heaters provides the perfect solution to storing and drying your ski equipment, ready for the next day.

Pets

We’re sorry but this is a pet-free property.  Please browse our selection of pet-friendly rentals if you would like to travel with your pet.

Underground parking spaces are included for two cars. Car not necessary in winter due to proximity to ski-lifts, restaurants and supermarket. Contact us for airport or railway transfers.

Winter

This luxury chalet is ski-in and ski-out (and sledge-in and sledge-out)! During the ski season, you only have to step into the shuttle cabin outside the chalet door and you are carried the 20m uphill to the piste. From here you only need to ski (or sledge) 300m down the main piste and you arrive at the Savoleyres telecabin. At the end of the last run of the day, don’t forget to stop before the end and hop into the shuttle cabin to be carried the last 20m to your door. The main piste is not accessible to complete beginners, who would need to walk the 300m to the ski-school meeting point at the telecabin. The modern high-speed telecabin carries you from La Tzoumaz up to the top of the Savoleyres in less than 8 minutes, from where you can decide to ski back on the quiet La Tzoumaz slopes or ski down to Verbier’s legendary slopes and world-class off-piste opportunities in the vast 4-Valleys ski area.
The chalet is operated on a fully-catered basis during the high season (31/01/2016 – 02/04/2016), and is available from Sunday to Sunday on a whole-chalet basis. The fantastic chef will provide you with delightful meals from an extensive repertoire and your chalet hosts are there to look after your every need. Outside of these dates no catering is provided and you are free to use the full kitchen facilities yourself.

We are very pleased to announce that we will be offering discounted ski-passes to everyone staying with us from Winter 2015/16. To be eligible for the 10% discount, ski-passes must be ordered and paid in full 12 days in advance of your first ski day. We accept all major credit cards. Orders received up to 2 days in advance are not eligible for the 10% discount however they will be printed for collection with your keys when you arrive in the resort. Last minute orders will be available for collection on the morning after you arrive. Discounted passes are available for all age-groups, for durations from one half-day up to 21 days, and cover the Savoleyres, Verbier or 4-Valleys sectors. The discount does not apply to the insurance options available. Ski-passes can neither be cancelled nor exchanged once they have been ordered. The discount is applicable in high, medium and low season and also applies to family rates.  It is not cumulative with any other offers or reductions. On arrival in the resort we will also provide you with discount vouchers for various other services, such as ski equipment rental.

Voted by House and Garden (December 2010) as one of the top 5 family oriented luxury chalets, Chalet Auriane is a haven for the little ones.  There is a den area with books, games and a Wii to put smiles on their faces when they want to come indoors. The kids can also play on the large terraced area, building snowmen or igloos depending on their talents.

La Tzoumaz resort, while adjacent to Verbier is quieter than its big brother which has massive advantages in terms of access to the slopes, especially for families. Even at Christmas or half term the longest wait time for the main lift has been 8-10 minutes compared to up to an hour in Verbier itself, yet you can ski down to Verbier from the top to take advantage of Verbier’s fun snowpark for freestylers or numerous off piste opportunities. There is a ski lift for children in La Tzoumaz and for those who want action off the slopes, the resort has a heated swimming pool, a natural ice rink and the longest floodlit sledge run in French-speaking Switzerland – 10 kilometres of sheer exhilaration, easily accessed from the main cable car lift. Hire a sledge in the resort for a day of fun. The toboggan run also passes directly past the chalet.  New from January 2016 will be the Audi Fun Park at the top of the Savoleyres – half snowpark and half boardercross, there will be banked corners, jumps and even a cool little tunnel to guarantee maximum amusement for young and old alike!

La Tzoumaz is an ideal place to learn and for confidence building and the Swiss ski school at the bottom of the Savoleyres lift can provide excellent instruction, whether for group lessons or private ones. Another option would be to have a private instructor collect you or your children from the chalet door, allowing you to enjoy another coffee before you hit the slopes yourself!  Rather fantastically guests in the chalet can travel the 20m to the blue ski run down to the main lifts via its private funicular lift, avoiding the need to catch a snow bus or walking in boots.  The Swiss ski school has an office and crèche facilities at the bottom of the main lift, 100m from the chalet, the latter offering morning or all day facilities from 2 years old.

Summer

From April, when the ski-lifts close, Chalet Auriane is available to rent on a self-catered basis, for weekends and short stays, or longer stays of one or two weeks or more. In summer, the area turns into a hiking and mountain biking paradise, with hundreds of kilometres of marked trails criss-crossing the mountains, awash with alpine flowers and a range of wildlife to spot. The “Bisses” are relatively flat footpaths that follow the water as it trickles around the mountainsides, where for centuries farmers and villagers channelled the streams for their own uses. They have been preserved now and can be an incredible way to spend a day or more on easy hikes with stunning views across the Rhone Valley or over to the Massif des Combins. We’ll provide you with plenty of tourist information including our favourite suggestions for day trips that are easily reachable from La Tzoumaz, from spectacular gorge walks, cheese factories and roman festivals to rainy-day ideas such as underground lake tours. The road that winds up the mountain-top to the panoramic Croix-de-Coeur Cafe-Restaurant opens as soon as the snow melts and from here you can continue the drive (or cycle) all the way down into Verbier.

In the peak summer season from early July to late August, the telecabin link to Verbier operates daily from 08:45 to 12:30 and from 13:30 to 16:45, meaning that you can easily access the famous resort as a pedestrian or accompanied by your bicycle. You can even use a variety of mountain lifts to make your way up to Mont Fort at 3300m for Europe’s highest fondue and incredible mountain panoramas that include Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. Don’t miss the Swiss National Celebrations in La Tzoumaz on August 1st, or the famous festival of live music performances, the Verbier Festival, which runs from mid-July to the beginning of August.

Perfect location, perfect chalet, perfect hosts Perfect Location I was looking for a place to just relax and view the beauty of the mountains and snow in the Swiss Alps. We had 8 family and friends stay at Chalet Auriane 25-29 November. The location in La Tzoumaz was perfect for this as it is a resort town with enough amenities to get groceries, rent ski equipment and get meals out, but small enough to reduce noise and congestion. The views over the mountains were truly stunning. We all were very satisfied with just sitting and looking at the scenery for hours on end. Perfect Chalet The chalet was more than I had planned for as it is even better than pictures show on the internet site. All 5 bedrooms were furnished beautifully and had their own bathroom, which makes everyone more comfortable when sharing accommodations. The private Sauna and Hot Tub were a great plus as well. The kitchen is stocked for the most demanding of chefs. The den is warm and inviting and set up great for spending hours just talking or playing board games. The Apple TV is a great bonus for travelers who do not speak French. The only thing I can suggest they do to improve the chalet is consider a real king size mattress for the beds. The 2 twins sealed together sometimes causes an issue sleeping. Perfect Hosts From the moment we first met Anna standing out in snow to get the key, we knew we would be well looked after. Percy and Anna stayed at our chalet with us that first night to get everything set up for us to make sure our stay there was perfect. They both made us feel so welcomed and worked very hard to make sure our stay was a memorable one. They were so much help that first night, my brother-in-law suggested we offer to have them stay in the bedroom we were not using. They did not stay with us, but were always around if needed and very, very responsive. I was very nervous about driving down the mountain in the snow on our departure date, but Percy was willing to drive us down if needed. We got Percy and Anna to pose for a couple of pictures upon departing to help us remember them and the great time we had on our visit to Chalet Auriane!! GL, Houston, TX, USA - Dec 2015

La Tzoumaz

La Tzoumaz

The 4-Valleys is one of the largest interconnected ski-areas in Europe, with lifts linking La Tzoumaz to Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon.  Altogether there are over 400km of pistes that cater for different levels of skiers.  Beginners can follow long gentle trails (which in Switzerland are marked out in blue instead of green or blue) that wind around the mountainside, never going too steeply.  Intermediates benefit from many long reds pistes, with up to 1,800m of height change between the top and the bottom of the lifts.  For experts, not only are there numerous steep black runs, but also clearly-marked yet un-pisted yellow itinerary routes, where the snow conditions will test your skills to the full.  There is a vast expanse of off-piste skiing where the local guides can show you how to access the freshest powder and the famous routes that include those used during the World Freeride Championships.

We love the fact that we are just next door to Verbier.  We don’t promise to offer you lots of trendy resort bars and restaurants within walking distance of your chalet, but in the daytime our high-speed telecabin links you to the resort of Verbier, its mountain restaurants and its vast skiing network known as the Four Valleys.  We can even arrange for you to spend the night partying in Verbier and shuttle you home when dawn breaks or when you are ready for sleep.  Here’s a glimpse of what is out there:
